Metropolitan has appointed Mark Everard as its Executive Director of Property.
Mark is currently a Housing Director within Capita Real Estate & Infrastructure, a role in which he focuses on affordable housing. He will join Metropolitan on 11 December to lead its recently created Property Directorate.
The new directorate brings together all of the housing association’s teams responsible for maintaining its properties. Its functions comprise planned works and service delivery; responsive repairs, including its in-house contractor Metworks; compliance and specialist housing.
The directorate was formed following a reshape of the structure of the organisation to focus on its principal aim: making things better for its customers, communities and colleagues.
Other organisational changes include the creation of a Customer Services Directorate and a Strategy and Planning Directorate. The Customer Services Directorate consists of teams providing services to customers from across the business – whether that’s vulnerable older people or general needs residents – and is led by Ann Gibbons. The Strategy and Planning Directorate is responsible for the overall strategy and plan for the organisation, and is led by Dan Jones.
Geeta Nanda, Metropolitan’s Chief Executive Officer, said: “I am pleased to welcome Mark to Metropolitan at a time when the organisation is entering into an exciting new phase – from turnaround to transformation.
“Our customers tell us that repairs and maintenance is one of the most important services that we provide to them. I know that Mark will provide a valuable contribution in leading the work that we do in this key area going forward.”
Mark said: “I am delighted to be joining Metropolitan as the new Executive Director of Property. The Property Directorate that I will lead has, at its heart, a responsibility to maintain properties to the high standards that our customers deserve. Working with our in-house contractor Metworks, our asset and compliance teams and external partners, I am confident that we will deliver a great customer experience to support the wider Metropolitan business.”
A graduate of Edinburgh University, Mark owned and ran A.E. Williams & Son (Builders) Ltd from the late 1980s to 2007. The business specialised in repairs contracts for local authorities and housing associations. In 2007 he sold the business to Connaught plc, joining the new owners as Client Relationship Director.
He left Connaught in 2010 to join Davis Langdon (DL) as a Director in the Affordable Housing Team. DL was acquired by AECOM shortly after this and Mark remained with the organisation for more than five years, latterly serving as Head of Affordable Housing. He took up his current role with Capita Real Estate & Infrastructure in March 2016.
