Reducing energy costs

There are loads of easy ways to reduce bills by only using the energy or water you need. Here are our top tips:

  • Turn off the lights when you leave the room
  • Switch to energy saving light bulbs
  • Close the windows when you’ve got the radiator on
  • Turn the central heating down by 1°C – turning down by just one degree saves approximately 10% on heating bills
  • Don’t use the stand-by button: turn electrical products, such as TVs, off
  • Buy ‘energy saving recommended’ fridges, washing machines and dishwashers
  • Wash your clothes at 30 degrees instead of 40
  • Only boil as much water as you need
  • Use a clothes line instead of a tumble dryer
  • Use low-flow shower heads: they can reduce water flow by as much as 40%
