As public spending cuts take hold across Haringey, Metropolitan has launched a new service, Golden Age, to help plug the gap in support for older people in the borough.
Golden Age is a monthly subscription service that provides a wide-range of popular social activities that encourage older people to stay healthy and active. Coffee mornings, bingo, chair-based exercises, outings and discounts on handyperson and gardening services are all part of the package.
At just £9.95 per month Golden Age membership is affordable and can be paid through personalised care budgets or by family members. It would even make a great gift!
Tottenham resident and Golden Age member Merle Roberts commented:
“I worked as a carer myself for over 20 years so I know firsthand how important it is for people to have access to this kind of service. There’s a feeling of togetherness and the staff are fantastic. I’ve been telling lots of people about Golden Age and really encouraging them to join in.”
Fellow member Cynthia Achille agrees it’s a great service:
“The exercise teacher is wonderful and the exercises aren’t too tiring! I’ve made lots of friends, everybody is so friendly – it’s fun to come and I enjoy every minute.”
Joyce Springer, Support Manager at with responsibility for Golden Age, added:
“Golden Age has been developed to provide the essential activities and support that older people tell us are important to them, in terms of keeping active and maintaining independence to allow them to continue living in their own homes. As a not-for-profit organisation, we are committed to providing these at an affordable rate.”
