Mendip gets a makeover

29/05/2012

Residents at Mendip House in Edmonton, North London are sitting pretty thanks to the efforts of volunteers who have given two large communal lounges a makeover.

Around 20 Metropolitan Care and Support and Mears staff rose to the challenge, descending on Mendip House (or rather, ‘ascending’ – all the way to the 25th floor), paint brushes at the ready. Over the next four days the volunteers transformed the lounges, decorating them in colour schemes chosen by the residents.

The idea for the makeover came from Hal Darwish, Senior Partnership Manager at Mears, following an increase in complaints from residents who were unhappy with their performance. Hal decided to contact various suppliers to see if they would donate materials and suggested that Mears and Care and Support staff might like to volunteer some of their time to the DIY challenge.

It was a great team effort by all those involved, and the residents are delighted with the new look lounges, which hadn’t been decorated for at least ten years. Special thanks go to Travis Perkins, Edmundson Electricals and RMA who donated paint, brushes and money towards the project.

Man in a van

Mendip House residents have been pretty pleased with a new ‘Man in a van’ service, currently being piloted. A multi-skilled contractor goes onsite once a week to sort out repairs. The feedback so far has been really positive. If you would like to find out more about this service please contact Customer Services on 020 3535 3535
