1,800-home Roundshaw estate transfers to Metropolitan

The 1,800-home Roundshaw estate in Sutton, south London, has transferred to the sole ownership and management of Metropolitan, one of London’s largest social housing providers.

Previously the estate was jointly owned and managed by Metropolitan and fellow social landlord the Hyde Group in a partnership called Roundshaw Homes. The transfer means residents now have just one landlord.

Metropolitan and Hyde believe the new arrangement will provide residents with a more effective, better value service. It also means residents have a single point of contact for information, services and routine transactions such as rent payments.

Residents were consulted on the transfer last summer and have seen no changes to their tenancy agreements or rights, with services on the estate continuing as normal.

Brian Johnson, Chief Executive of Metropolitan, said: “We are delighted to have become the Roundshaw estate’s sole social housing provider. We believe that transferring management to just one landlord will provide residents with a more efficient service. Our priority now is to ensure a smooth transition.”

Carol Carter, Group Housing Director at Hyde, said: “Hyde, as part of the Roundshaw Homes partnership, has worked hard with residents, over the years, to drive significant regeneration and transformation both in the physical environment and the opportunities available to the community. We’re very proud of our role in helping to deliver new and improved homes, and to support residents in their aspirations to improve their community and make a lasting difference to their lives.”

The estate was transferred from Sutton Council to Roundshaw Homes following a residents’ ballot in 2007. As part of the new stock swap, Hyde has transferred a further 83 properties in Sutton to Metropolitan – which makes the latter the borough’s second largest social landlord, managing approximately 2,100 homes. In return, Metropolitan has transferred 811 of its properties in Croydon and Bromley to Hyde.
